Honey, I am ALWAYS Googling.
Monday, March 19, 2007 at 04:20PM Rowen didn’t win my personal daily contest for Funniest Thing Said yesterday. One of my little Primary kids did, in our class of 4-year olds at church yesterday.
The subject of my lesson was “The Gift of the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit)”. The conversation went like this:
Me: “We receive a very special gift when we are baptized. Can anyone tell me what this is?”
4-year-old Owen: “A remote-control helicopter!”
Ah yes. If only. The skies would be full of helicopters.
I stumbled across a quote just a few minutes ago, in my random Googling of the known universe. (Gabby was teasing me about this. We had been IMing about me wanting to maybe add some landscaping to my front yard. I’m a total noob about gardening or any kind of landscaping whatsoever, so of course the first thing I did was google it. Then my head exploded. She warned me never to google huge subjects like that again, and also teased me, saying, “You should have told me you were googling, I would have told you not to.” And I said, “Honey, I am ALWAYS Googling.”
If anyone decides they want to use that on a t-shirt, I will buy one.
Okay, back to the story. I’m making papers for the Hybrid digital kit that will be the free download when you purchase the Hybrid special issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine. No doubt if you’ve been here at any time in oh, the past 2 months or so, you’ve heard of it. :P There is a huge online component to this as well, including a full digi kit, a list of links to my favorite kits that go along with the techniques in the issue, and video tutorials for some basic techniques, such as installing fonts and brushes.
Anyway, I was googling. Looking for stuff to put on this wordy paper. I remembered this awesome poem I stumbled on just a few days ago, by Anne Campbell, to her child:
You are the trip I did not take;
You are the pearls I cannot buy;
You are my blue Italian lake;
You are my piece of foreign sky.
I think this is lovely. I used something of the same sentiment in one of my Hall of Fame entries last year, to my son, called “You are the Mark”:

I found the above poem (upon Googling) in a talk given by Gordon B. Hinckley, the president of the LDS church, in October of last year. In it, he also said this quote (which is what I’ve been getting to this whole time! LOL I can be so longwinded sometimes):
“God bless you, mothers. When all the victories and defeats of men’s efforts are tallied, when the dust of life’s battles begins to settle, when all for which we labor so hard in this world of conquest fades before our eyes, you will be there, you must be there, as the strength for a new generation, the ever-improving onward movement of the race.”
And I thought about all my friends who are mamas. Who fight the fight every day that is motherhood - the selflessness and sacrifice and, frankly, occassionally mind-numbing life that comes to you with your kids. But now and then I get the glimpse as the dust settles for a few minutes, and see a little more clearly, with a little more perspective, how critical, this often thankless job is. And how very fulfilling. I love that mamas are the strength for the new generation. We teach them how to be people, how to be citizens of the world, and how not to throw whole bowls of macaroni and cheese onto the floor. You know, life skills. :)
So might I add my voice to his, that God bless you in your job as mama today. Just some thoughts as I googled along…

I'm still trying to figure out the mac n cheese on the floor thing. :P
I work part time in 2 Kindergarten classes and I had started "Best quote of the Day" to share the little gems of cuteness with my husband. Little kids are the BEST! My DH and I are also the Sunbeam teachers for our ward.
Please, you can't make that adorble stuff up.
