The Week Continued...

I think I’m just kind of in for it this week. Somehow in the wheel of fate my number came up, and I’ve been assigned. It helps me to think of it like that. On the opposite side of the wheel, though, some other lady somewhere is having an awesome week.

I went out to take Rowen to school yesterday morning (Jared was still gone on his Smashing Pumpkins mini-roadrip), and of course the car wouldn’t start. Bleh.

So. We hung out at home. Watched Yo Gabba Gabba on DVD. Had a tickle-fest in the living room. Groveled in the general direction of our grocery store, from which I just found out I can order my food online (! - and this is why we even HAD food to eat yesterday. Because I suck at groceries but being able to order them and then choose whether to go to the store 4 blocks away and have someone put them in my car, or have them delivered to my house is something I TOTALLY get!), and generally laid low. We ordered pizza for dinner.

Jared got home around 6, we all hung out, played, put kids to bed, etc.

Then at 11:30, Jared went to the midnight launch party for the new Warcraft Expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. He wasn’t the only one there. (Is that your husband there in line, too? ;)

He had pre-ordered our copies, so he arrived back home at 12:15 and of course we installed it.

And after downloading a couple of patches, and Jared having to shut the server down to scavenge a DVD drive from it because his mysteriously stopped working (now it’s 2:15 a.m.), we launched it up and entered the new continent together. And? It was AWESOME. Totally worth the wait, and worth staying up for so we could jump off the zep  at the Howling Fjords together. Now that is geeky love right there.

Okay, I have a theory that you are one of three kinds of people who read that paragraph above.

  1. You rolled your eyes because we are nerds of the kind that you only thought existed in sitcoms
  2. You have no idea what Warcraft is, or what most of the above paragraph was even about
  3. You (or your husband/boyfriend/sig. other) was out buying the Expansion too

EDIT: Because of suggestions in the comments, I need to add a 4th!

4. You don’t play WoW, but you totally get the story if you inserted all your own words into it, because you’re a total geek about something. ;) Everyone has their nerdy little secret…

This is the part of the week that was great fun. And it happened at 2:30 on a Thursday morning.

So I shirked from some of my deadlines last night, knowing my sitter was coming today. And Jared took the day off work so he could play some of his new game.

And did you guess it?

She is sick. Called us at 8:30 this morning.

So see the recap of yesterday, a few paragraphs ago? That is going to be today, too. Rinse and repeat. ;) And perhaps yawn a little more. Server’s still down, with its guts spilled on the floor under Jared’s desk, so I think it’s time for a Diet Mt. Dew! :D

Ever had one of those weeks? Or are you the one having the awesome week? :D

The other part of the week that has been AMAZING is the Stories in Hand class! Wow! I hadn’t anticipated such an incredible response to the class, or to the project and the idea, and it is so AWESOME to see! If you’re in the class, I really hope you are loving it!

I'm tellin' you..."This will all soon be but a happy memory." You gotta quote movies. That's what we do. Of course to quote them...you've gotta watch them over and over and over...so maybe we are the freaks...;D I don't know anything about gaming...but I know what it is to love something so much that you stay up till 2am to do it!!! ;D

#3 here.

Carlos loves me but that love would increase exponentially if I asked if I could play with him :p

I am sorry you are having one of those weeks. In part, because of your great talent and generousity I am one of those awesome weeks. I am getting to love on my Grandboys AND I am getting to be creative. Cutting paper and punching holes and decorating my binder. WISHING you an awesome WEEKEND, starting NOW!!!

I'm in a fourth category - totally get the nerd thing but in a different way - as my hubby and I both sit on the couch, laptops on our laps, doing our digi-things - his work or CraigList looking at boats, me digi-scrapping! Sometimes we are even IM-ing each other or emailing images that we are looking at. Not sure if we're just that nerdy or just that lazy!!

Enjoy the game! Sounds fun! (I'm only willing to stay up past midnight for really awesome reading!!)

i love your way of looking at it - if you are having a bad day, then someone, somewhere, must be having the awesome day. i can totally see a huge spinner, and the needle lands on 'crappy day' for you, but the back of the needle lands on 'great day' for your 'opposite person'.

from now on, when i'm having a bad day, i will be glad for my 'opposite person' whoever she may be.

Just think Jessica...your turn for an awesome week shall be coming soon! I'm excited today though because I have an empty house for a whole 2 hours today and I'm going to start my basics class....woohoo!

Wish it was my turn for an awesome week, but I seem to be having "one of those weeks" too! I've spent this week trying to fix some major PSE6 catalog issues stemming from 2 EHDs switching id's. Ugh. Now it's causing me problems in ACDSee. Talk about a major "expediture" of time!!! DH called this morning and locked himself out of his truck. Whew!

My dh has been trying to get me to play that game for like a year now. I just can't sit at my computer and NOT check myspace, facebook, my scrapbooking forums, or actually digitally scrapbook! I can't! Now I'm meeting more and more women (make that two, not including you) that play that game. Hmmm. Might have to fall for it one of these days. :(

My oldest son (who is just this side of too "regular" to be one of the characters on "Big Bang Theory," but now by much) plays Warcraft. You may have just given me an idea for a Christmas present . . . .

And the Stories in Hand class is fabulous so far. I am looking forward to really getting into the writing portion. Plus, I think your prompts, and the whole system, really, are going to help me get some of my mom's memories put into writing. She is 88, so I need to get working on that!

As for your crazy week, I suggest watching the movie, "Elf," even though it's not really time to be watching Christmas movies yet. And hang in there--maybe next week you'll be the lady having a magical awesome week and someone else will have all the flat tires and sick sitters instead.

Absolutely loving it....the class, the projects, the complete lack of sleep due to staying up on the message boards until all hours of the night. Loving it! Maybe all this bad karma means you're in for a great weekend. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

i would add a #4:
those of us who laughed hysterically because although we do not play Warcraft, we DO have our own kind of psycho, nerdy, obsessive thing going on, too. consider me one of them.

So I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting for the end of the day to come so I can go get MY copy of WOLK and decide to go read through my google reader subscriptions to find THIS in my papercrafting folder. BAH!!!! DH & I decided to be good and wait until after work to go pick up our pre-orders bc we knew we'd get distracted, forget to sleep and then be too tired to drive to work.

HAVE FUN FOR ME!!! (Which server are you on?)

I totally feel your pain. We've been in survival mode around here since hubby's been working 15 hour days and weekends the last month. Two weeks ago my daughter cut her head twice in one day (yes - that's two trips to the ER within four hours). Yesterday our main water line broke and we had a flooded yard and pipes to be fixed (no water all night) - life is CRAZY I tell you. I've decided all you can do is laugh. Even with it all, life is still really really good.

I was one of the nerdy people that waited in line with my hubbie last night, and I don't even play. Luckily, we found someone we knew who was nerdier than we were and was only seven places from the door so we didn't have to wait too long. -It was COLD last night.

Totally loving the Stories in Hand class! And last night is totally going in there!

Thanks!

Awww, Jes... yep. We all have those Celebrate the Chaos days... and I'm right there beside you, riding the same bus, sitting on the same train. The best part about it? That no matter what it is, we have the ability to celebrate it, because at the end of the day, it's *that* that matters, right?

Oh, and the 10th guy in line, the one in a blue shirt? I think that's my husband... (bwahahaha. You know that if he were indeed there, that would only mean that you and I would've been sitting on the sofa inside the house, raising our Mt.Dew glasses in a toast!) :D

Hope you're having a GREAT day today, and if you need a nap, take it! You totally deserve it! :D

I'm #5...my husband was in that line (ok not really he got his at lunch today) and I am a WoW widow who will not see him until Monday morning when he asks me if he stays home from work if I'll make him clean. The answer is yes of course.
November 13, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMommaC
Totally #3, only he's out right now buying it. I have thought about playing with him but I really have too much on my plate right now. I did wonder if you would be posting anything about it today. It's a good thing I'm busy with Christmas crafts in the evening cuz I know I won't be getting any hubby time for a while...at least until he levels up...but then he'll be raiding...it never ends does it. lol.

Gotta luv that we all have are own little worlds that we flounder in, but are all part of the same universe. Makes me continue to get up each morning because I know someone else will have the kind of day I am - I am striving to look for the wonderful little things inside all the chaos. Thanks for sharing your world with us.

i only knew what you were talking about it because i heard the tech guy on Rick & Bubba talking about it on the radio yesterday morning. hope your day went better than you expected. those late night will get you once you have your own kiddos. :)

Not a gamer, but I did laugh - you are correct that one doesn't have to be a "gamer" to understand nerdy obsessions. And as I look back over your post, seems like yesterday was kinda nice - although you didn't get to take Rowen to school, you did get to have one of those wonderful lazy hang-at-home days with her. That's awesome! Not sure I'd be any more thrilled than you about the rinse and repeat part, but really, in your week of mishaps, there were so many shining moments - enjoy them! And BTW - totally freakin' LOVE the Stories in Hand class - my binder is together and I even went back and reprinted some of the pages to personalize them after figuring out (thanks to your step by step instructions) how to do that. Can't wait to start writing - but have to get my jotter assembled yet!

LOL! Did you episode of The Big Bang Theory a few weeks ago when Penny got addicted to online gaming? It totally reminded me of you and Jared. :) Personally I have never played, but only because I am positive I would end up like Penny. Hehehe.
November 13, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMaegan
I'd be in category 4. Totally obsessed with EQ rather than WoW. And yes I started playing b/c hubby did. Totally loving SiH too. Thank you for the fabulous class. You are sooo very due an awesome week.

There are always "those" days, weeks, months... if it's not one thing, it's something else. No offense, but it's nice to know it's not just me! ;)
As for your SIH class, THANK YOU. I am TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY INSPIRED! Just see this here and know that one chic somewhere in the midwest truly appreciates you:

Too funny about WoW. While my hubby didn't go out to get it, he DID pre-order it and went to pick it up right after work on Thursday. Close enough to #3, right?!

Did you all get anything good off the scratch tickets with the game? A guildie of mine got an epic rare mount, I was so jealous!

I've been in Howling Fjord for an entire day now! lol!

Jessica, I was thinking that I am the #2 kind of person, not because I AM NOT a nerd with good intentions however, But because I never have enough time to enjoy extra or even learn such a world as you enjoy- unless it's at 2am ... perhaps I will try that. Your blog was timely as I just finished the project and I'm totally up to speed and LOVING it. You have come to mind so often while putting the book together and reading all you put into this. I am so impressed with you. We share similar passions and work with our hubbies and run with the same age children. (mine 6 and 3). I am 110% for family as I know you are. BUT .... how do you do it all? Never did I think you have days like you did on Thursday. Love that you surrendered to it. I am so happy to know you and have been given the opportunity to follow your classes and now participate for the first time. I will be taking many more in the future. Stories in hand really affords us the perfect foundation to getting our memories in a treasure box for all to see. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I will look forward to seeing you again in the near future at one of the CK events I am sure. Loved CRP-Stamford. Was proud that my photo won most creative. NEVER did I think that was possible. I am an automatic girl... working on manual however. : > {

Nope, my week sucks too...sympathizing big-time here!
And I am TOTALLY jealous that you have a local grocery store that will do deliveries! Sometimes I'd sell my soul for that kind of convenience;)
November 14, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCheri
Hope your weekend is better than your week!

BTW, I am LOVE - LOVE - LOVING your class! Wonderful message, great organizational, ADORE the beauty and ease of the printables - you rock, girl!!

Uhhh....we're a #3 too....and i had a few days similar to yours....but not quite. I'm thinking my number will be picked in the next few days.
November 15, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTara
I completely lived your story! Except, we left the kids at home (I knew having a 15 year old was good for something!), he got Lich King and I justified him buying that and a new headset as being equal to my getting PSE 7 ! We geek together, just in different ways... :D
