I received the following entry from Daily Om in my inbox today (love these! no matter what your spiritual or religious beliefs are, the articles are always thoughtful and inspiring), and was so moved by it, I wanted to post some of it here.
I firmly believe that there is a reason we are all placed in this earth situation together - there is some design in the opportunity to interact with, communicate with, influence, and be influenced by other people. There have been people in my life who definitely came along “just in time”, to set things rolling or to teach me something I really needed, or to rescue me when I was hurt or in pain or doubting.
I think being open to the possibility of being “placed in the way” of someone else helps us to become that human angel as well.
Here is some of the article (emphasis added):
Beings of Light
Human Angels
During each of our journeys, there are those inevitable moments when someone comes into our life at precisely the right time and says or does precisely the right thing. Their words or actions may help us perceive ourselves more clearly, remind us that everything will turn out for the best, help us cope, or see us through difficult situations. These people are human angels – individuals designated by the universe to be of service to those in need at specific points in time. Some human angels make a commitment before their births to make a positive contribution to the world at a particular moment. Others were chosen by the universe. All human angels, however, come into our lives when we least expect them and when we can most benefit from their presence.
… . But most of them are regular people, going about their daily lives until called upon to be in the right place at the right time to bring peace, joy, help, or heal someone when they most need it. You may have met a human angel in the form of a teacher who gave you a piece of advice that touched your soul and influenced your path. The person that momentarily stopped you to say hello on the street, delaying you long enough to avoid an oncoming car or a collision, is also a human angel. They may offer nothing more than a kind word or a smile, but they will offer it when you can draw the most strength and support from their simple action.
… Human angels give of their inner light to all who need it, coming into our lives and often changing us forever. Their task has its challenges, but it is they that have the power to teach, bring us joy, and comfort us in times of despair.
Has anyone in your life been a human angel? Have you ever been a human angel for someone else?

Coincidence is God's way of staying anonymous
Jessica, you have been a human angel as well to me - helping me in your Stories at Hand class. Helping me to connect to my past, to so much.
I have tens of thousands of pictures (at least digitally) and not so many stories recorded.
But the stories... They are worth so much.
I called my great aunt one night (after your class started - was it day 4?) and I've only seen and talked to her once before. But I wanted to know more about my maternal grandmother - one I'm named after and look just like, but who died the year before I was born...
Ahhhh, the stories. The stories... I listened and I laughed and I smiled and I wrote and wrote and I shared and shared and I laughed some more. It was priceless - the highlight of my month.
Thank you for coming into my life. Thank you for sharing your class with us.
