I tried to be brave, but instead I almost passed out

So I have this freckle on my forearm. Or had, until today. It had been changing in strange ways, itching, turning red, and really behaving in a non-freckly way. So I went to the Dr. this morning, and she looked at it for a few seconds and then said, “We should take this off. We can do it today. Right now. Is that ok?”

Uh. Okay?

I neglected to mention that it was 10:30 a.m. and I hadn’t eaten breakfast… you know where this is going.

I made it fine through the first and third parts (the first part being the lidocaine shot, and third part being me laying on the table with one nurse standing by to make sure I was ok, while the other stitched), but the second part.. not so good. That was me sitting in a chair with my arm up on the table. With the room spinning, everyone suddenly receding to a distance of about 6 miles, and me beginning to feel the world go dark as I retched into their garbage can. Totally not my finest hour.

But after some soda and a few minutes’ rest, and climbing up on the table, we proceeded to the third part, which was better. :)

But! I came home with three neat stitches. Some fancy “Tuba tues” (which she told me is the Southern way to say “gauze pads” - ha! I guess it’s a corruption of “two by twos”), and I will know the results after Thanksgiving. I’m not sure how to feel about this yet. Except that it’s a good excuse to have a nap today. ;) And perhaps treat myself to a milkshake later. Am I the only one who associates milkshakes with having done well at the Dr’s office?) After all, doing well for two parts out of three isn’t bad…

Definitely NOT the only one! Isn't that what milkshakes were invented for!?!

Hope you're doing okay and that the results are good!

Chick-fil-a or Sonic milkshakes...can't decide which I like better. What a wonderful reason to visit the drive-thru. I'm afraid I drive in for far less or no reason!! Hope you are feeling better today!

Praying for good test results. And I don't blame you for the milkshake (what flavor?) and nap--always a good precription for what ails you!

Just allowing the Dr. to go ahead without prior warning was plenty brave. You earned your milkshake - enjoy it! And we're all sending positive vibes your way that it turns out to be a big nothing.

It must be something in the air about wanting milkshakes after Dr.'s visits. I had to get a root canal yesterday, got the ok to eat and wanted a milkshake in the worst way. I picked up my son from school and took him to McDonald's he wanted a Happy Meal, I ended up with one so my 3 year old could have a toy from Madagascar too. (and to keep the peace) Someday's keeping the peace is almost as good as a milkshake. Thanks for the Stories in Hand class. I'm having a blast and going to make a binder for my mom for Christmas.

Okay...you just sparked a memory! LOL! My dad used to take my sister and I to the dentist and afterwards he'd always take us to get a milkshake!

Oy, Jess. Make sure you go to Target or some other similar retail therapy facsimile thereof and get yourself a gift for making it through without passing out. :) I will pray for you.

Yikes! Not fun!!! Definitely have a milkshake. And no, you're not the only one. My hubby's family always got "mint malts" whenever they had to go to the doctor's office. :)

Ewewewewewewewweewewewew....

I'm getting a little queasy reading about it!!! I am so sorry you had to go through that. Yucky, yucky, yucky!!

I have a couple that I think may need to get looked at soon, but I'm scared!

Yep, dont it too. I have a hereditary skin tag or moleish issue and I went in for my first round of removal last month. I was told to put some numbing cream on which didnt even work and then they burned all the things off with this wand and I had a large mole on my side removed, the shots were painful and the process hurt like heck. I cant wait to go back next month for my next round :(

I'm totally with you Jessica! I think you did great concerning what you had to work with--no breakfast--and something potentially serious pounced on you. I also feel a milkshake is in order. This was one tough day...regardless of what the results say. I've been on the breast cancer diagnosis side and it's pretty amazing what God will get one of his children through--even the weakest of us--ME! You are in my prayers!
