Sick and Whiny, but the Aeneid was good...

Bookmark and Share

I am sick.

And whiny.

We’ve had something here for a week. Everyone ELSE had it for exactly 2 days.

Fever, runny nose, a little cough, some general bleh. 2 days, and gone.

Of course I got it on Thursday, and it kinda simmered on Friday, and hit me like a truck yesterday, and today I’m generally feeling like I’ve been run over. Ugh.

And of course we’re talking about MY lovely immune system so this is day THREE and it doesn’t appear to be going ANYWHERE, I hope I’m not going to show up at CKU like this. (YAY! CKU is Wednesday! :D)

And of course now would be the time when I find out that Airborne is really just a hyped-up vitamin pill and not the miracle cold cure. :P Back to my old standby of sudafed, ibuprofen, water, and energy drinks. Hehe.

So I am going to bed and it’s only 8:30. New time. Don’t even get me STARTED on Daylight Savings Time today.

But just so this post isn’t a complete downer (to make you sorry you even showed up here…)

Books Update

BUT in better news,  I finished the Aeneid. It was awesome. And Alice in Wonderland was a quick read. Was it just me, or was that book tainted forever by the Disney cartoon? I had the purple-and-pink Cheshire cat with that one guy’s voice that appeared in about 6 Disney movies (including Kaa from the Jungle Book) running through my head every time he spoke.

It made me want to go back and read the Iliad and the Odyssey again. Which I think I’ll do. And maybe eat some popcorn and some Jelly Bellys (Bless you, Target, for your 40 flavors in bulk bins!) and drink more Crystal Light lemonade. What’s your comfort thing when you’re sick?

Thank you for your book suggestions! You’re awesome! I’m always looking for more books to add to the list!

Jared and I read together every night before bed. We normally keep it light - We’ve recently finished Thud, Leave it to Psmith, and now we’re on to the Hobbit. After 8 years, we’ve been able to read dozens of books together, and it’s been awesome. :)

Alright, bed.

Happy daylight savings grogginess to all, and to all a good night! :P

How high is your fever, Jessica? I hope it isn't the flu. We are still seeing some of it in Alabama. Prayers going up for a speedy recovery!

Jessica - thanks for turning me on to Goodreads.com. I love it! What is your name over there? I think we should be friends. :)

Hope you're feeling better soon!

It's just your body telling you to sloooooow down - yeah not possible hey! Try drinking Roibus tea a couple times a week - great boost for the immune system.

Bummer - sorry you're sick again! I feel like my body is fighting something off. I hope I don't get it! *hugs* from Oregon.

Hope you enjoyed that Lost episode - it was a good one!

welcome to the sickies club! ugh. my comfort zone: shades drawn, comfy bed, cool air, and lots of shut-eye time. aaah.

am nursing the worst ever strained muscles / stiff neck/ stiff back in addition to fighting off the virus here (it's a worldwide germ conspiracy!)... so how bout we throw a pity-party for us with lots of comfort food? sounds good? yeah! :D

take care, my friend, and lots of get-well hugs to you (sending some immune-system-ninjas as well to help you battle the ughs! ;) )

I can't read with my husband. He reads too slow. LOL

Did you know you can also access episodes from Lost on ABC.com? They also have HD versions available.

Next time you are sick, get in some Claritin-D. Here in Tennesee you have to ask the pharmacist for them because of the homemade meth labs using it.Probably same way where you are. But it is so worth the price.

Well...the flu going around here starts with a cold for about 4 days, then ok for a day or two, then BAM flu symptoms. And I'm on day 3 of the cold. Hmmmm. So I may be dragging butt on Friday when I see you, but I will bring lots of good cold drugs. Hee.

Have you tried Zicam. It really works. It may not help too much after you are into the symptoms, however, try it. Can's hurt. I use it all the time that is when I start getting the feeling I am sick with a cold I take it every 3 or 4 hours. It is supposed to keep the cold from lasting too long.

Hope you get well soon!

My 11-year-old had "it" 3 weeks ago (he's over it); I had "it" 2 weeks ago (jury's still out); picked up my 15 year-old from school today w/"it", an hour later, hubby came home from work with "it." What the hell is "it?" It keeps morphing from victim to victim. All I know is, "it" sucks! Hope you're feeling better, and your post isn't a downer, it makes the rest of us sickies feel normal! Trust me, when you're sick, misery LOVES company! Take care.

Had to laugh because I am reading this as my husband and I are watching episodes of Lost that we have on TiVo. We are also sick, so I feel your pain. Hope you feel better soon! :)

My favorite cure for the sickies is Vietnamese Chicken Noodle Soup. It's spicy and delicious and magically clears all of the gook out of your airway. And the warm broth soothes the throat and body aches.

We can so relate to the sickness thing, just when I think there is not another virus out there to get, wham, we get it.What a year.
I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you. I am still finishing my NWR class and I have had so many "aha" moments. Especially learning to make masks. I LOVE it. Thank you!!

Thank You! Thank You! For the Photoshop Friday! Just what I was needing! Loved it!

As a pittance of repayment, here is a book suggestion...if you'd like more mythology, you might try TIL WE HAVE FACES by CS Lewis. It's his retelling of the classical myth of Cupid and Psyche. Powerful and moving exploration of sacrificial love. Not one of his better known works, but most literary types think it was his best. (Warning:you will need to invest in EVEN more tissues...sorry about that cold. Hope you're better soon!)

Can we start a "banned" list for busy people? I suggest adding colds and flus to the top of that list. I had the same symptoms 1-1/2 weeks ago and my doctor said it was the flu...felt like the worst cold I'd ever had with a fever to boot. I went through 3 boxes of Kleenex in one day! A prescription of Tamiflu really helped me. I hope you're feeling better soon...sure love reading up on your blog!
