Loving This: Letterpress

I’m going to start a new feature called Loving This. :) I stumble on stuff all the time, but rarely categorize into sets, so this will be fun!  Tonight, for example, I was browsing about, and got sucked into this entire evening full of letterpress goodness! There’s something so compelling about how tactile they are, and they’re always printed on gorgeous textured paper. :D I love that each one must be made individually, and so often they are made completely by hand. (Handmade stuff has been a theme for me for a little while now.)

Here are some awesome ones I am loving! I’m actually thinking of starting a little letterpress collection of my own here. :)

Linda & Harriett  Is that not the most delicious handwritten letterpressed signature you ever saw? WHOA.

Papered TogetherI want to put one of these in EVERY book I own. And the child silhouette looks just like Rowen to me. :)

Dee and Lala   I pretty much love every single one of their sweet, whimsical cards, but these elephants just melt my heart. :)

Messenger Brid Press - one can never have too many coasters. And wouldn’t these rock as gifts?

Megan Creates - And one more sweet lil’ elephant to round out the evening. :)

Yes. Definitely thinking of starting a letterpress collection of my own. :D (Hey, and if I get sets, I can send 5 and keep one, right? ;)

I love the quote! And talk about convergence!

Tomorrow night (Thursday) I begin teaching a bible study using the book by John Ortberg "If you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat."

Our church is having some issues and my wife and I have started a few things because of this call. I was going to cover some composition notebooks with a masculine paper and hand them out tomorrow as a journal to use for the sessions. But instead I (or my wife, whoever has the time tomorrow) are going to recreate this quote like you have it and put it on the cover.

I am stoked!!!

Wow, this stuff is all so pretty and inspiring. That handwritten one at the top is the best. I soooo love that writing. And you cracked me up with the "touch it, pet it and call it George." hilarious!

If you're ever in Portland, check out Oblation:

I'm a graphic designer, and I just want to marry this store. They have the most amazing paper stuff in their store, including a "tree" of a zillion pretty ribbons hanging down, They have beautiful letterpressed invites etc. that you can see them printing on their printing presses behind the fishbowl glass. It is SO COOL!

At my December wedding, I gave my bridesmaids 2008 letterpress calendars after reading this blog post: http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/10/25/ilee-letterpress-calendar/

They were a HUGE hit.

Letterpress is so delicious. I had the opportunity in college to do a few projects on a letterpress. I wish I was able to do more. It was so involved and beautiful that I still dream to this day that I could own my very own press and produce little lovelies to send to people.
Thank you for the great links and inspiration. Ahhhh..beautiful!

Jessica...thanks so much for sharing this with us. Each one is cuter than the next! I can't pick a favorite.

And did I catch a hint from your previous post that just "maybe" there may be a new book that you're working on (she said with fingers crossed)???

We got a letterpressed wedding invite the other day. Has a nice look to it. When we were just married, Aubrey was researching letter presses and was thinking about getting one. Looks like a fun hobby, but a serious one.
